4/9 - 4/11Student Outcomes: Students will analyze the importance of the Amistad case in relation to the Civil War
Standards: • 6.1.12. A.4.a: Analyze the ways in which prevailing attitudes, socioeconomic factors, and government actions (i.e., the Fugitive Slave Act and Dred Scott Decision) in the North and South (i.e., Secession) led to the Civil War. Methods/Activities/Assessments: 1. Students will watch the movie The Amistad and take notes and answer questions. 2. Teacher will highlight important themes and events throughout the movie. 3. Students will write an essay about the movie. 4/15Student Outcomes: Students will summarize the rationale behind the secession of the South prior to the Civil war and how it affected their participation in it.
Methods/Activities/Assessments: 1. Students will work on a guided reading that summarizes the immediate events leading up to the attack on Fort Sumter. 2. Teacher will present notes that highlight the Election of 1860 as a catalyst for South Carolina's secession, as well as the advantages of both the North and the South going into the war. 4/17Student Outcomes: Students will evaluate the importance of the early battles and their impact on the outcome of the war.
Standards: 6.1.12. A.4.c: Evaluate how political and military leadership affected the outcome of the Civil War. Methods/Activities/Assessments: 1. Students will identify significant battles in the first year of the war. 2. Students will create a timeline on Sutori.com of the battles and explain their importance on the outcome of the war. HW: Pearson Reading and Practice Quiz 5/1 - 5/3 Student Outcomes: Students will consider the roles played by African Americans soldiers during the Civil War.
Standards: 6.1.12. D.4.a: Compare and contrast the roles of African Americans who lived in Union and Confederate states during the Civil War. Methods/Activities/Assessments: 1. Students will take reading assessment. 2. Teacher will lead discussion on the readings and assumptions students may have about the role of Black soldiers. 3. Students will watch Glory and answer guided viewing questions. |
