I believe that net neutrality should be protected and internet providers should not have control on what their customers can and cannot search for and access. For example, if you had to do research for school and your topic is a widely studied topic, what if your internet browser won’t let you look for other countries research? Most of your research would be limited to the research done in the U.S. Also what if you topic for your Doctorate Degree was only based on research done in Europe and your internet provider would not provide you access to that research? Then your paper would not be completed and you would not be able to get your degree. However unlikely that would be, the internet is open to everyone and internet providers should not be allowed to limit your access to what you can and cannot research. Also if internet providers cut off what you can view on Youtube, maybe Psy and Gangnum Style would not have become known to the United States and that song would not have been as famous as it has become just by posting to Youtube. Along with this statement what if Justin Bieber was not discovered? The era of Bieber would never have existed and his music would never had been discovered. Maybe that would have been a good thing, but all the other artists that were discovered by Youtube would never have been discovered because internet providers would have blocked some of the internet stream to not be viewed. Also websites would lose their access with most viewers and would dwindle down to nothing since nobody would be visiting the websites. Internet Neutrality is something to fight for and should be fought for. The Internet is free do not let providers limit what you can access.

It is a pretty universally accepted thought that one person should not have too much power over another. This applies to laws, slavery, wealth, physical altercations, business deals, and many other things in society. Information, and the transmitting or receiving of it, is no exception. As CGP Grey (briefly) stated in his little video, this fight has already been done by way of phone and telegram, and the conclusion was the same: all information should flow freely, should it not harm anyone it reaches. If some company or government wants to control who has access to what information, or how fast they can retrieve information, in order for personal profit, then they are unfit to govern the distribution of that information. This injustice is multiplied immensely when you take into account that officials from the companies and officials from the government exchange money often, and can even be the same people. The current state of the government shouldn’t allow modern companies to be given exceptions to basic truths that other companies have been following for centuries. Though, after the SOPA movement getting so much momentum and success only for a similar act to be pushed by congress anyway, the national motivation for protecting online rights is at an all-time low, and generally uninterested audiences are even less involved than before in making their voice heard. The argument is not necessarily that a fight against internet oppression SHOULD be fought, it’s that more people should be aware that the fight exists in the first place, and informational videos like this one do a great job of conveying the (otherwise over-comprehensive) subjects to the public.

I agree with the video in that we should fight to keep the internet neutral and all data equal. Net neutrality is the same concept as the Declaration of Independence which states that “all men are created equally”. Both maintain the principle of everyone is equal and that no one person or data site is treated differently or unequal. The minute we give up power over the internet to the government or these internet companies is the minute this country turns from the beautiful democracy it is into a communistic and more of a totalitarian nation. If we give the government or the internet suppliers the power to limit the internet and what we see then we will be in the same scenario that China is in. Many of their people are fed false stories and information about the outside world as well as the government hiding and limiting much of the information on the internet. By giving the internet companies control over the internet will also make it become more expensive to use certain sites or find certain information. The internet companies could also promote monopolies and block out rival competitors by disabling internet users to see another companies’ advertising or commercials posted on the internet. There would most likely be a great deal of off the books deals with certain companies that would want to be promoted more than their rivals are and the internet companies would only look at it as another sale ad way to make money rather than a violation of our right to look up whatever we want on the internet. If the internet companies had total control over the internet then they could be paid off by the government to keep world events from its citizens or even spread false events to get the people to want war with a certain country or want rights changed or promote a certain candidate for president over or more than another, etc. The terrible outcomes of giving total control of the internet to these companies outweigh the benefits, if any in my opinion for the people who would not be involved with the internet companies or the promotion scandals that could occur. As an American I believe that everyone should have open access to the all content posted on the internet, no one company or government should be allowed to block any of that contact from any user unless that content causes malicious harm to any company, person, or government. Any content causing malicious harm should be blocked and black-holed by internet providers.

Net Neutrality is an issue that has not gotten nearly enough coverage as it should. Using the internet as we know it could drastically change for the worse. When the internet first came about, no one could foresee the massive impact it would have on our society and culture as a whole. In today’s world functioning without the internet is seemingly impossible. Everyone as internet users needs to band together to defend Net Neutrality. Large Corporations should not be allowed to become highway patrol for our data waves. The internet should be a free enterprise where all are treated equally. If Net Neutrality is destroyed, then the internet will be used as another divide for the rich and poor. Only those with enough money will be able to use the internet freely to their own leisure while those who can barely afford their internet bill will be stuck with a continuous loading symbol. The wealth distribution in this country is already a big enough issue there is no need to add to the inequality. We can all enjoy internet the way we do now without turning it into a business proposal or using it for economic gain. There are endless amounts of free thinkers in this world who are able to use the internet to put their ideas into place. Without Net Neutrality, we will be ruining the foundation that has lead to most technological advances in the past decade. Not only is Net Neutrality important to us as individuals it is important to us a country striving to progress and further ourselves. It is our obligation to defend and fight for freedom of the data waves. We should be free to surf the internet to our leisure without the danger of big companies slowing us down. For a country that built its foundation on equality, we have a hard time upholding those values especially in the face of our capitalist economy. Capitalism has its high points as well as its low ones. We need to define the line and defend Net Neutrality which should be a right for all.

Net neutrality is a big factor in life and we must fight to keep it. The internet needs to be equal for all data so that instead of hearing what the internet provider wants us to hear we can hear all points of view. If our internet provider will not let us hear other points of view we, as a people, will become close minded and ignorant. If big corporations have all the power it then becomes a dictatorship on the internet. They will run smaller businesses out of business and have complete power to do whatever they please. All data has the right to be equal like all people and should be given a fair chance to be heard. Another problem that develops is if you need to research something that the only research has been done in a different country the internet providers may not allow it. If we can not find research done in other countries we will only know the research done in America and that isn’t much. we become even more close-minded than we are now. The internet will in a way become like North Korea because we will not allow information from other countries to come in. Leaving us blind to the outside world. Net neutrality is also against the american way. America is about being free and being equal. Even in our National Anthem we refer to America as the “Land of the Free”. Why should the internet be any different than the physical world. If we truly were the Land of the Free we would want equality for all data and not allow big business to hinder what we see. We all must stand up to these big corporations and show them that we will see what we want to see not what they want.

The idea of Net Neutrality is an interesting yet age old problem. Companies that provide services always try to obtain the largest amount of profit possible. Yet the internet is different. The internet is the veins of life. It connects people together and allows people to be informed of current events and watch the occasional cat video. In today’s society, the internet is needed, and the world changes by the second, and if the internet speed is downgraded, people will just fall even more behind. Those who control the internet controls what people are able to think. But Net Neutrality does not only affect the internet, it also affects all other public services.

Net Neutrality, being a modern technological law, allows freedom to those who seek to use the Internet to their disposal with privacy and equality to every other user. However there are always those who want more than others. The concept of taking away this privacy and equality would violate this right giving us a limited service in which we pay for. If this were to happen with the neutrality gone we would be sentenced to unfair distribution but forced to keep paying for it. Without technology such as the Internet today would be detrimental to anyone's function. We require these luxuries for work, needs, and leisure; without them we would have to revert to a former function of society but still remaining withy with the temptation of Internet tyranny. As all men are created equal and by our first amendment we have the gift of freedom by which our country stands. If someone is to take away the foundation of our rights in even the smallest way then they must be willing to deal with those ready to fight for them.

Erasing this right may not only take away something we as a young generation have to come to live with but also squander our progress in the field. Our recent advancements have improved our knowledge and lifestyle in our culture. Without this freedom to face new experiences and learn from them how can we, as a society, expect to to venture on in our ever-expanding pursuit of ideas.

The internet is one of the most crucial tools of the 21st century, although only utilized recently, the internet is quickly becoming the resource that we rely on the most for life as we know it. Think of how recent the invention of the internet is (at it's current state), and think of how quickly it is working it's way into every single thing we do.
